GuyS & DoLLs This is typical of ornate wedding gowns, decorated with beads, amulets and coral, worn by Jewish women from Yemen. Located in the southwest corner of the Arabian Peninsula, Yemen has been home to a Jewish community since around the Second Temple period. Beginning in 1882, numerous waves of Yemenite immigrants began settling in the Land of Israel, which today has its own Yemenite dance troupe called Inbal. Elizabeth Applebaum AppleTree Editor H ere's a fun way to learn about Jewish traditions and get to know interesting figures from the past and present. All you have to do is attach cardboard to the doll (figure A), cut out and add a photograph of your face. Then cut out costumes and see yourself as one of our guys or dolls. This is a regular feature in AppleTree, and all costumes fit the same figure. Keep cutting out the costumes and you'll amass a great collection. if you would like to see the attire of a famous Jewish per- son here, just write and let us know. Weill do our best to repli- cate an authentic outfit (or.at least one appropriate for the time period) and include it on this page. Or, if someone in your fami- ly has an interesting career, send a drawing our way. We might be able to feature it (in any case, we would love to see it!). , Please mail to: Guys And Dolls, The AppleTree, 27676 Franklin Road, Southfield, MI 48034 (No phone calls, please.) 3/13 1998 64 jud9e Stephen C.
