A High Note

An Israeli cantorial choir brings its
musical magic to Young Israel of Oak Park.

JULIE EDGAR News Editor

N

early 30 cantorial voices filled
the sanctuary of Young Israel
of Oak Park Feb. 28 with the
strains of Hebrew and Yiddish

songs.
With accompaniment on the piano
by Menachem Bristowsky and the lead-
ership of Dr. Mordechai Sobel, the
Israeli Yuval Choir also performed a
medley of songs celebrating Israel's 50th

The choir has performed twice before
in Detroit, the first time after members
became acquainted with Michael
Traison of the America-Israel Chamber
of Commerce of Michigan. The Yuval
Choir typically travels with a 48-piece
orchestra and between 45 and 50 can-
tors, and when it returns next year, it
will come with the full array.
The cantors stayed in area homes
during their Detroit stop. ❑
