graph some of the most
famous film stars of today.
He also wanted to recap-
ture the magical Golden Age of Hol-

lywood and bring back the glamour
of the 1930s and '40s. In About
Glamour, his new book of dramatic
black and white portraits, Prince was
able to do both.
The photographer's present-day
celebrity subjects could be mistaken
for the likes of Ava Gardner, Marlene
Dietrich, Greta Garbo or Clark
Gable — not because they share
physical characteristics but because
Prince recreated the romantic mood
of an earlier era with striking poses
and timeless couture.
"I've always been impressed with
the simple, yet classic, style of the
golden era of movie images, and I
wanted to go back to the past for
inspiration and create a new glamour
for a modern era," says Prince, who
shot his photographs with an old
1940s 8 x 10-inch wooden Deardorff
view camera.
