families will take part in a Purim fami-
ly program from 9-11 a.m. on Sunday,
March 15. The older students will
learn about Purim and the related
issue of anti-Semitism, when several
students who recently came to this
country discuss experiences living as
Jews in the former Soviet Union.
This year's Adat Shalom Youth
Department Purim Carnival will run
from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday,
March 15. "Mordechai's Marvelous
Magical Museum" will provide a variety
of games with prizes for elementary-
aged children. Admission is free. Tick-
ets are 25 cents each. At the same time,
"Haman's Hide-a-Way" will offer
youngsters 2 to 5 years a Ball Jump, a
Moon Walk and all the games they can
play, with prizes for everyone for $5 per
child. A Purim video arcade with pop-
a-shot and air hockey is an tap for
older children at $7 each. The carnival
is open to the community. Lunch will
be available for purchase. Proceeds will
benefit the Youth Department.

The Agency for Jewish Education's
Midrasha Center for Adult Jewish
Studies will continue its Educational
Exchange series at Barnes & Noble
Booksellers in West Bloomfield 7-
8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 10. Rabbi
Steven Weil of Young Israel of Oak
Park will present "Queen Esther and
the Machinations of the Persian
Court." The Educational Exchange is
free of charge and open to the com-
munity. For a complete listing of

The Midrasha Center will present
two free mini-courses for adult learn-
ers throughout the community Tues-
day, March 10 and 17, from 7:30-9
p.m.
Rabbi Michael Moskowitz of Tem-
ple Shir Shalom will present, "A
Hitchhiker's Guide to Jewish History"
7:30-9 p.m. Tuesdays, March 10 and
17 at AJE. "Sweet Liberty and Bitter
Herbs-A Historical Halachich and
Philosophic Analysis of Passover" will
be discussed with Yael Weil of Young
Israel of Oak Park 7:30-9 p.m. on
Mondays, March 23 and 30. Registra-
tion is requested. For information or

Genealogists
Plan Meeting

The Jewish Genealogy Society of
Michigan will meet 7 p.m. Thursday,
March 19, at Temple Beth El, 7400
Telegraph Road at 14 Mile Road, West
Bloomfield.
David Techner, funeral director of
the Ira Kaufman Chapel, will present
"Genealogy Information Available from
Funeral Homes and Cemeteries." Tech-
ner is an author and facilitator of
bereavement support groups.
Topics which will be discussed
include but are not limited to specific
information available, restrictions on
availability, length of time information
is kept by the funeral home and death
certificates. Questions will be wel-
comed.

Ecumenical
Model Seder

The Ecumenical Institute for Jewish-
Christian Studies and Temple Beth El
in Bloomfield Hills will sponsor the
annual Model Passover Seder 6 p.m.
Tuesday, March 17, at the temple.
In addition to the traditional
Passover meal,guests will participate in
reading, retelling of the story of the
Exodus and have time for conversation
with Temple Beth El hosts. Individuals
and families are welcome; this event is
especially significant for church confir-
mation and study groups.
The only charge is for the meal itself:
$14 for adults; $12 for children under
12.
