The Talmud
And Purim
Rabbi Rod Glogower will present a
special pre-Purim study session on the
Talmudic origins of the mitzvah of
mishloach manot (Purim parcels which
we send to our friends) 10:30 a.m.-
noon Tuesday, March 10, at the Janice
Charach Epstein Museum Gallery.
This is an intermediate-advanced
class, designed for those with some
text study experience.
Adult learners are welcome to
attend the March 10 session even if
they are not registered for the series as
a whole. Advance registration is
encouraged but students also may reg-
ister at the door.
Tuition for the Purim study session
is $10 for members of B'nai Moshe
and the JCC; $12 for others. To regis-

Shlomo Sperka
A dinner honoring the retirement of
Shlomo Sperka, director of the Bureau
of Employment Relations of the State
of Michigan, will take place 6 p.m.
Thursday, March 19, at the Ramada
Inn Hotel, 17017 W. Nine Mile Rd.,
Southfield. The dinner is sponsored by
the bureau and the members of the
Michigan Employment Relations.

Summer Programs
From ZOA
Applications, brochures and video-
tapes of the Israel summer programs
of Masada/Maccabi, sponsored by
the Zionist Organization of America,
are now available at ZOA's Metro
Detroit offices in Southfield (248)

Nine different programs are avail-
able for high school and college stu-
dents aged 13 to 21. Among these
are a teenage tour, a leadership train-
ing program with a stopover in either
Rome or Prague, an adventure pro-
gram for those who like the rugged
outdoors, a music-experience pro-
gram for those who play musical
instruments, a mifgashim program
for cross-cultural encounters with
Israeli peers, a scuba and sports pro-
gram and a late summer program
that includes crossing the desert by
Jeep or camel.
All programs are grouped by age
into units of 30 to 40 participants,
each led by six or seven professionals
and one or two American counselors.
Security is a top priority. Medical ser-
vices and insurance coverage are pro-
vided for all participants.

Blumenstein will chair Days of Deci-
sion, the community-wide effort to
close the Jewish Federation's 1998
Allied Jewish Campaign. Days of
Decision will be observed March 22-
April 6 with a series of phonathons
at the Max M. Fisher Federation
Building.

stein is a former

Campaign chair
and past president of Federation's
Women's Campaign and Education
Department. With her husband,
Harold, and David and Doreen Her-
melin, Mrs. Blumenstein established
the Blumenstein/Hermelin Cam-
paign Challenge Fund for the 1998
Campaign. She also serves as a Fed-
eration vice president.
Every contributor to the 1998
Allied Jewish Campaign will be listed
in an Israel 50th anniversary com-
memorative scroll to be published at
the close of the Campaign.
