the honorees and honorary chairper-
sons of the Shir Tikvah-sponsored pre-

Seth Korelitz, the executive director of
the Michigan Region of United Syna-
gogue of Conservative Judaism and a
Ph.D. candidate in Jewish history at
Brandeis University, will continue his
four-part Eilu v' Eilu adult Jewish
study series "American Jewry During
the Civil War" with a session titled
"The American Jew as Soldier and
Statesman" 8 p.m. Wednesday, March
18, at Hillel Day School, 32200 Mid-
dlebelt Road, Farmington Hills.

The Matzah Factory will return to the
D. Dan and Betty Kahn Jewish Com-
munity Center in West Bloomfield,
beginning Sunday, March 29, through
Sunday, April 5. The factory will offer
public tours on both Sunday after-
noons starting at 1:15 p.m. The last
tour is at 3:15 p.m.
School groups may tour, by
appointment only, at all other times.
Matzah Factory will offer extended
school tour hours on Monday and
Wednesday. (The factory is closed on
Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday.)
Participants will learn how tradij
tional shmurah matzah is made.
They'll receive a baker's hat and bake
their very own piece of matzah! Partic-
ipants also will grind wheat from ker-
nels and create Passover crafts.
Admission is $3 per child. There is
no charge for accompanying adults.

JPI Hosts
Purim Celebration

The Jewish Parents Institute will present
a family Purim celebration 10:30 a.m.
Sunday, March 15, at the Kahn JCC.
The celebration will consist of
Purimspiels and other entertainment
followed by a carnival at 11 a.m. The

Shoshanna Ben-Ozer will present
"Jewish Women in the Bible" 1 p.m.
Monday, March 9, at the JPM JCC.

A Purim concert will be held in
Jaffe Hall 1 p.m. Thursday, March 12.
Join Susan Greener and Natalie Con-
rad for an afternoon of Yiddish,
Hebrew and English songs. There is a
nominal charge for non-members.
Vivian Stollman, accompanied by
Sonny Lipenholtz, directs the Senior
Adult Choir every Monday at 12:30
p.m. New singers are welcome.
The woodcarving group meets
every Monday through Friday from 9
a.m.-noon.
Weekly Erev Shabbat Services will
take place on Fridays at 12:45 p.m. at
the JPM. Cantor David Gutman will
facilitate every week with prayers and
songs. There is no charge.

Advocacy Day
In Lansing

Members of the Jewish community
throughout Michigan will have an
opportunity to speak to state legisla-
tors about issues of Jewish community
concern at the 1998 Jewish Advocacy
Day in Lansing.
Sponsored by the Michigan Jewish
Conference, Advocacy Day will be
observed 9:30 a.m.- 3 p.m. Wednes-
day, April 1, at the Lansing Center,
333 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing.
