the throng and judged with vino pair-
ings ... The always entertaining emcee-
ing of Dick Purtan, etc. ... That was the
3rd annual Michigan Culinary Food &
Wine Extravaganza, held yearly at Mac
& Ray's in Harrison Township.
Judging was by a panel of food
reviewers who scored each restaurant
in five categories ... overall table pre-
sentation and display; visual presenta-
tion of food; food composition and
quality; quality of wine selection; and
food pairing/compatibility with wine.
First prize traveling bowl went to
Andiamo Italia ... second place was
Grey Gables ... and Tom's Oyster Bar
took third ... Andiamo West won best
table display honors.
THOSE NEW cheesecakes from
David Serris of Encore Bake House in
Pontiac are the latest things at Caribou
Coffee on the Boardwalk, Orchard
Lake Road, in West Bloomfield ... They
join the filled tart favorites.

Pump Room move from the Drake
Hotel to the Palmer House? When I
moved from Detroit in 1949 to
Chicago, the Palmer House had the
Empire Room for dining and enter-
tainment. The Drake Hotel had the
Pump Room, where movie stars, etc.,
were seated in booth one.
"In your column in the issue of
Feb. 6, I read where the Pump Room
was in Chicago's Palmer House Hotel.
Please move it back where it belongs."
(I think we're both wrong, Ruth.
Wasn't the Pump Room in Chicago's
Ambassador Hotel East?)
