ent though ... and serve food worlds
apart ... Comeaux's has good Cajun
food ... and Como's on Woodward
serves fine Italian specialties, including
a filet that has been drawing raves
galore.
FOLKS ALWAYS said that Rina
and son Adrian Tonon should bottle it
... And they have ... Now the delicious
Venetian-style garden-fresh tomato
sauce, Pomodoro Veneziana, they have
at their Cafe Cortina restaurant, 10
Mile east of Orchard Lake Road, can
be gotten at all Hiller Markets ... plus
specialty markets and grocery stores.
Over at the popular Cafe Cortina,
the new executive chef is called Hoffa
... That's because there are now two
Jeffs in the kitchen putting out
those yummy dishes.
Newcomer since November Jeffrey
"Hoffa" Hoffman comes from Chi-
anti, Tuscan Grill, Grand Traverse
Resort and Rattlesnake Club ... with
training at Hyde Park's Culinary Insti-
tute of America.
The other Jeff, Jeffrey Blinder, with
Rina 11 years, is the son of Marjorie
and Philip Blinder ... Before becoming
a chef, he worked at Harrison Clean-
ers years back for Phil and Jeff's uncle,
Hy Blinder ... After Oakland Com-
munity College's culinary program,
most of what Jeff learned has been
from the Tonon family.
LOOK AROUND and wonder ...
How in the world did Roland Optics
ever operate in smaller quarters before?
The space it is now in at Applegate
Square, Northwestern and Inkster, is
about twice the previous size ... And it
seems like so much more breathing
room for the happy personnel of Dr.
Mickey Weishaus and Dr. Max
Gottesman.
The 4,000-square-foot beauty has
so many eyeglass frames all over the
place ... five examining rooms ... a lot
of good things to see ... and space to
run around.
• Maybe this is why Roland Optics is
so successful ... Made no difference
where it was located ... Could have
been in a hole in the wall ... Customer
satisfaction always took priority ... And
it didn't ever take room to give this.
CONGRATS ... to David and
Rachel Goldfine, now living in Mar-
gate, Fla. ... on their 59th anniversary
... Dave used to have the Clam Shop
on East Grand Boulevard that so
many people sure do miss.
WALL-TO-WALL people ... Mardi
Gras beads and motif ... Music, danc-
ing, auctions, food and wine galore
from 23 restaurants gobbled down by
