that Kay gave to the students and
their parents, he included talit, tef-
filin, a kippah and nice outfits for
Friday night and Saturday morning.
And they were not optional acces-
sories.
The trip was co-sponsored by the
Adat Shalom Sisterhood, Men's Club
and Social Action Committee.
The group spent Friday night and
Saturday morning at Temple Israel in
Orlando to celebrate Shabbat.
"We were introduced at both ser-
vices as having helped Habitat for
Humanity," said Starkman. "A num-
ber of people told us that they'd have
applauded our work if it weren't Shab-

bat.
"People at the (Habitat for Human-
ity) houses were nervous about having
high school kids down there," she
added. "They said after we finished
that the kids set a high standard and
wondered if the college students
would be able to measure up."
Adat Shalom Rabbi Efry Spectre
was pleased that his shul was able to
send a group to do this work.
"It's good consciousness-raising to
the non-Jewish world, because it gives
them some idea of what the commu-
nity does," Spectre said. "Marc [Kay]
has shown lots of imagination in
putting the trip together. With all the
components, it's not an easy thing to
organize."
Said Kay, "Part of the trip was that
