food cleanliness could be a major breakthrough with restaurateurs and the Oakland County Health Division getting together as a common body in That looks like a long-term unity. It is important that they are pulling together to help each other in airing their respective grievances. Almost everybody wanted this ... with the valuable bottom line sure to be happier and healthier cus- tomers that come with such a firm restaurant/health department togeth- erness. First meeting of the Food Focus Group was in January at the Birming- ham Community House ... Food- borne outbreaks were discussed, along with consumer complaints, scoring on inspections, discussions on how to improve relationships between the health division and restaurant indus- try, etc. The group felt that media reporting was unfair and that writers not under- standing the restaurant business was a factor ... Scoring by the Oakland County Health inspectors was dis- cussed and how its misuse led to bad TV and newspaper coverage. The most important issue by the group will be promotion of food han- dling cleanliness. Attendees included Norm LePage, Big Rock Chop & Brew; Rick Rogow, Big Daddy's Parthenon; Dennis Brinker, Sign of the Beefcarver; Andy Kotsozos, Leo's Coney Island; Glenn Serafini, Elias Brothers Restaurants; Dan Schuyler, Mr. B's Restaurants; Ray Lance, East Side Mario's; Johnny Ginopolis, Ginopolis'; Terry Beach, Olive Garden; Bill Carlson, Galen Garst, Kathy Forzley and Alan Drenchen, Oakland County Health Division, and others. The next meeting is set for March 31, at Big Rock Chop & Brew, 245 Eton St. in Birmingham. Many restaurants and health departments of yesteryears never seemed to work together ... or wanted to ... As a result, the lack of cohesion always presented problems that could not be amicably resolved because nei- ther wanted to give in to the other. Now they have grown up ... And thankfully, everyone will benefit ... The restaurants ... The Oakland County Health Division ... And the consumer. Isn't this great?
