Frankel Center
Hosts Speaker

The Frankel Center for Judaic Studies
will present Dr. Jeffrey S. Gurock,
professor of Jewish History at Yeshiva
University, who will give the Eighth
Annual David W. Belin Lecture in
American Jewish Affairs, 8 p.m.
Monday, March 16, at Rackham
Assembly Hall in Ann Arbor. Dr.
Gurock's talk is titled "From Fluidity
to Rigidity: The Religious Worlds of
Conservative and Orthodox Jews in
Twentieth Century America."
Jeffrey S. Gurock has been at
Yeshiva University since 1976, where
he is the Libby M. Klaperman
Professor of Jewish History, academic
assistant to the president of Yeshiva
University, and chair, Academic
Council of the American Jewish
Historical Society.

The Department of Michigan, Jewish
War Veterans and Ladies Auxiliary will
honor four area leaders during their
Brotherhood Night program 7:30
p.m. Tuesday, March 3, at the Jewish
War Veterans Memorial Home, 16990
W. 12 Mile Rd., Southfield.
The four honorees/speakers for the
evening will be Rabbi Aaron Bergman,
Beth Abraham Hillel Moses
Synagogue; Shirley McClellan, free-
lance writer; Tobi Gerbig, executive
director Michigan Veterans'
Foundation; and Sidney Lantz, presi-
dent Southfield Common Council.
The Rev. Henry Reinwald will rep-
resent the Four Chaplains legacy. Past

include Ruth Marcus, national vice

Conservative Judaism; Rabbi David
Nelson, spiritual leader of
Congregation Beth Shalom; Alicia
Nelson, teacher and life partner of
Rabbi Nelson; and Sheyna Wexelberg-
Clouser, Beth Shalom member and
quality assurance analyst, Detroit Area
on Aging.

sponsor a program designed for par-

ents and grandparents of twins 7:30
p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at the B'nai
Israel Center, 4200 Walnut Lake
Road.
"It Takes Two" will feature Rabbi
Leonardo Bitran and Dr. Michael
Coleman, along with parents who will
share their experiences raising twins. A
question and answer period will follow
and refreshments will be served.

NIRIM
Workshop Set

Teachers of grades 7-12 are invited to
the next NIRIM workshop of the
Agency for Jewish Education,
"Searching for God with Teens," 7:30-(
9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at the
Agency for Jewish Education.
The workshop will introduce
Jewish educators to ways of enabling
their students to make personal con-
nections in seeking God. The work-
shop will be presented by Shawn
Simon, coordinator of the middle and
high schools at Beth Israel
Congregation in Ann Arbor.
Teachers enrolled in the NIRIM
Professional Enrichment Program for
Jewish Educators will receive two units'
upon completion of the workshop.
The session is free of charge.
Educators must pre-register with their

CHAIM
Traces Roots

CHAIM-Children of Holocaust-
Survivors Association In Michigan,
will host a genealogical program on
tracing Jewish roots 7:30 p.m. Sunday,
March 1, at the Cybercafe of
Birmingham, 750 S. Old Woodward, (
Birmingham.
Steven Gold, a genealogical expert
from the Jewish Genealogical Society
of Michigan, will assist participants in
their searches. All children of survivors
and survivors are asked to bring with
them biographical information about
their family's history, region, etc., to
help guide searches. The cost is $7 pe(
person.
Also at the program, CHAIM's
annual election of officers and trustees
will take place. For information, con-
