JCC Classes,
Dance, Music

The Jimmy Prentis Morris Jewish
Community Center will offer the fol-

lowing during Winter Session II
which will extend through the week
of April 4. The classes are: Creative
Dance with Harriet, First Phrase
dance class, Ballet I, and Center
Orchestra.
"Creative Dance with Harriet,"
taught by Harriet Berg, is two classes
for children between the ages of 3-5,
Tuesdays from 10:15-11 a.m. and
from 1:15-2 p.m.
"First Phrase" is a beginning dance
class taught for 16 sessions by the
Center for Creative Studies at the
JPM building, for children between
the ages of 5-6, on Tuesday after-
noons from 4:45-5:30 p.m.
"Ballet I" is a new class being
taught by the Center for Creative
Studies. Ballet I is for children
between the ages of 6-9, on Tuesday
afternoons from 3:30-4:30 p.m. for
16 sessions.
"Center Orchestra" is a tuition-
free community orchestra being led
by an instructor from the Center for
Creative Studies. This class is for
adults who can play an instrument or
who have played in the past and
would like to begin playing again.
The orchestra will practice on
Monday evenings between 7 and 9
p.m.

Book Talk
Is Slated

The 10th anniversary meeting of the
moadon for Israeli Contemporary
Literature (Hebrew), founded by Dr.
Avraham Horowitz, will take place
7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, at the
home of Rachel and Dr. Sheldon
Kapen, 4564 Fairway Ridge Ct.,
West Bloomfield.
The book to be discussed is
K'Riyah by Yehudit Rotem. The dis-

March 8, at the synagogue.
Families will have an opportunity
to make shalach manot and baskets
and win prizes at a variety of carnival
games. Pizza, ice cream and haman-
taschen will be served.

from Feb. 8 until the day of the

Rosh Chodesh
Lecture Series

A Rosh Chodesh lecture series for
women supported by Machon
L'Torah and Young Israel of Oak Park
will be held 10:15-11:30 a.m.
Thursday, Feb. 26, at the Jimmy
Prentis Morris Jewish Community
Center.
Dr. Janet Snider, a Detroit Medical
Center pediatrician, will speak on
"Esther." Tickets are free to the public.

Ettinger, who

binical ordination Rabbi Ettinger
from Yeshiva
University, is associate tax counsel for
Guardian Industries. The event is
sponsored by the Jewish Legal
Society of The Detroit College of
Law at Michigan State University.

Memorial Center
Guided Tour

The Adat Shalom Synagogue Adult
Study Commission and the Youth

and Education Department will co-‹
sponsor a guided tour of the
Holocaust Memorial Center 3 p.m.
Sunday, March 1.
Docents will be Adat Shalom
members Micki Grossman and Ethel
Goldenberg. Following the tour, par-
ticipants will hear a personal account
from a Holocaust survivor. The after-
noon is designed for adults and chit'
dren seventh grade and older. The
group will meet in the lobby of the
Kahn Jewish Community Center.

JPM JCC
Plans Events

Cafe Europa will meet 12:45 p.m.
Monday, Feb. 23, at the Jewish
Community Center in Oak Park.
This monthly program, sponsored by
DMC/Sinai Hospital and the Jewish
Community Center, is for Holocaust
Survivors of Detroit. The afternoon (
is free; donations will be accepted.
Enjoy an afternoon of your
favorite Israeli and Yiddish songs as
well as popular show-tunes.
Entertainer Marsha Rofel will sing
at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at the
Jewish Community Center in Oak
Park. There is a fee for the lunch; the
concert is free.

Class Prepares
For Citizenship

The English Language Institute at
Wayne State University will offer a
nine-week Citizens Preparatory
Program from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, Feb.
16 through April 17, in cooperation
with the Jewish Family Services.
The course is available to all law-
ful permanent residents in the metro-
politan Detroit area and will be held
on Wayne State's main campus.
Students will cover the aspects of
U.S. history and civics that are neces-
sary to pass both the oral and written(
citizenship examinations.
Course fee is $50 and includes
books, materials and transportation
to the Jewish Family Service, 24123
Greenfield, if needed.
Pre-registration is required. For
