The company, which has 200 employees in Israel, is to move to new premises in May and expects to hire another 70 engineers. The product, dubbed "a system on a chip," is to be ready by June 1999, said Halla, 51. Since taking the helm in 1996, he has engineered a shakeup of the company from focusing on pro- duction of low-cost chips to complete product function in order to keep up with the "consumerization of the PC." He predicted that the price of low- cost PCs on the U.S. market, which "blindsided IBM and Intel," will go down to $500 by this summer com- pared with $800 today and $1,000 last summer. These PCs are not low perfor- mance, but are just made at lower cost, he said.
