When Israeli percussionist Chen
Zimbalista performs, he gets every-
body into the act. At Temple Beth El
last Sunday, some people were content to stay in
their seats, clapping and tapping; others joined
him on stage to try their hands at shakers, cym-
bals, marimba and congas and wood blocks.
Zimbalista, 30, was in town for the Mid
East/West Fest, an intercultural exchange for
public school students. He presented workshops
and held jam sessions for students in Detroit all
. ,
week.
His appearance at Be El followed Israeli
dancing and singing. ❑
