lthough he's too young for
a shot at Nagano, Charlie
White of Bloomfield Hills
is getting an opportunity to
compete at a level just below.
The 10-year-old White, and his
partner Meryl Davis, 11, of West
Bloomfield, will compete in the
ice dancing competition at the
Junior Olympics in Plano, Texas, in
March.
The pair skated in their second
competion together on Oct. 29, win-
ning the Eastern Great Lakes
Regional Competition in Ann Arbor,
which qualified them for the Texas
event.
They also won their first competi-
tion in Cleveland on Oct. 3, only 12
weeks after they were paired.
Both White and Davis are fifth-
graders — White at Roeper, and
Davis at Birmingham's West Maple
Elementary. They are coached by
Seth Chafetz and train at the Detroit
Skating Club.
