Bais Chabad
Plans Classes

Congregation Bais Chabad of Farm-
ington Hills is offering a class on
"Jewish Laws of Kashrut - The Gate-
way to the Laws of Ordination" on
Tuesday evenings from 8-9:30 p.m. A
class on "Jewish Meditation Based on
the Teachings of Tanya" is being
offered on Wednesday evenings from
8:30-10 p.m. Rabbi Chaim Moshe
Bergstein is the instructor for both of
these classes at the synagogue, 32000
Middlebelt Road, Farmington Hills.
The Aleph Bais Dance Class is
being offered at the synagogue on
Wednesday evenings from 7-8 p.m.
for women only. Dress should be
casual but appropriate for a religious
institution. Mrs. Tatiana Shulkin who
is a professional dancer will be teach-
ing the class. A nominal fee will be

Genetic Age
Is Discussed

"Genes and Levis: Jewish Wisdom for
a Genetic Age" will be the topic of
Dr. Daniel Sinclair, dean of Jews'
College, London, England, when he
addresses the Jewish Federation's Car-
dozo Society noon Thursday, Feb. 26,
at the Townsend Hotel, 100
Townsend St., Birmingham. The Car-
dozo Society hosts programs of inter-
est for members of the legal profes-
sion.
An ordained rabbi, Dr. Sinclair
holds an associate research fellowship
at the Center of Medical Law and
Ethics at Kings' College in London.
Dr. Sinclair has written extensively on
Jewish law.
There is a charge. Reservation

Machon Hosts
Three Talks

Machon L'Torah, the Jewish Learning
Network of Michigan, will hold an
educational lunchtime conference at
the offices of Miller, Canfield, Pad-
dock & Stone at 150 W. Jefferson
Ave., Suite 2500, 12:15 p.m. Tuesday,
Feb. 17. Rabbi Avraham Jacobovitz

will lead a discussion on "Messianic
Expectations, Myths & Realities." The
program will be hosted by Richard
Loebl and will include a deli lunch
before the lecture. There is no charge.

Ann Arbor. Rabbi Jacobovitz will

Civil War
America Jews

Seth Korelitz, the director of the
Michigan Region of the United Syn-
agogue of Conservative Judaism and
a Ph.D. candidate in Jewish history
with Brandeis University, will teach
a four-part Wednesday night adult
study series titled "American Jewry
During the Civil War," under the
auspices of Eilu v' Eilu, the coopera-
tive adult Jewish learning project co-
sponsored by Congregations Beth
Abraham Hillel Moses, Beth
Shalom, and B'nai Moshe, Hillel
Day School of Metropolitan Detroit,
and Women's League for Conserva-
tive Judaism-Michigan Branch.
Sessions will meet from 8-9 p.m.
Feb. 25, March 4, March 18, and
March 25, and will be hosted by
Hillel Day School, 32200 Middle-
belt Road. There will be no session
on March 11 (Purim).
Tuition is $20 for the series or $5
per session for members of the spon-
soring organizations; $28 for the
series or $7 per session for others.
Interested adult learners may sign up
for any or all of the sessions, which
will be designed to be self-con-
tained.
