Grudge Match Akiva and Hillel battled on the court for day school supremacy. LONNY GOLDSMITH Staff Writer BILL HANSEN Photographer Le : Akiva co-captain Yishai Natan drives to the basket past Robbie Frankel. A fter falling earlier this season to Hillel's basketball team, Akiva was looking for a bit of revenge. Thanks to Yishai Natan, they got it. Natan scored a team high 18 points to lead Akiva (6-3) to a tight 49-47 victory on Feb. 2. "It was a real battle," said Akiva Coach Bill Andrade. "Hillel controlled the inside game. We had trouble with numbers 11 and 21 (Robbie Frankel and David Feldman) — they had a good hold on the inside." Andrade points to his team's overall shooting inside and out, and Hillel coach Tony Saunders points to his team's inability to shoot free throws. "We missed at least a dozen free throws," Saunders said. "If we hit half of them, we'd have won." Hillel was without three of five starters, including leading scorer Danny Horwitz and co-captain Ian Gross. "We didn't play great, but it was a game we should have won," Saunders said." ❑ 2/13 1998 110 Above: Hillel coach Tony Saunders strate- gizes with his team.
