She enjoys working with children and her mitzvah project involved vol- unteering in the home of an autistic child. Justin Victor Justin Victor will become a bar mitzvah on Saturday, Feb. 7, at Temple Beth El. Justin is the son of Sheryl and Douglas Victor, brother of Emily and grand- son of Phyllis and Iry Kaplan and Natalie and Seymour Victor. As part of his mitzvah project, Justin prepared and served food at a homeless shelter. He also worked at his temple's coat and shoe drive. Justin enjoys Michigan football, basketball, acting and the computer. He is an honor student at West Hills Middle School. Kate Schmier Kate Rubin Schmier will be called to the Torah as a bat mitzvah at Havdalah services on Saturday, Feb. 7, at Temple Israel. She is the daugh- ter of Ellen and Dr. Ronny Schmier and grandchild of Rita Rubin, Irving Rubin and Regene Schmier and the late Leslie Schmier. Among her mitzvah projects is involvement with Interplast, an orga- nization that provides free surgery for children with deformities in develop- ing nations. Kate is a student at Cranbrook Kingswood Middle School and enjoys art, dance, swimming and skiing. Daniel Zack Daniel S. Zack will observe his bar mitzvah at Temple Israel on Saturday, Feb. 7. He is the son of Susan Zack and Steven and Marla Zack, brother of Blake, and grandson of Dorothy Spry and Myrna Zack as well as the late Sam. Zack and the late Bernard Morrison. His most meaningful mitzvah project involved visiting Fleischman Residence with his two dogs. A student at Warner Middle School, Danny is interested in skateboard- ing and snowboarding, baseball, bas- ketball, various animals and travel- ing. Engagements Malz-Marx Judith Malz of Manhasset Hills, N.Y., joyfully announces the engage- ment of her daughter Elizabeth Jeanne to Scott Andrew, son of Linda and Mel Marx of Orchard Lake. Beth also is the daughter of the late Philip Malz. Beth earned her bachelor of science degree in business studies from the State University of New York College at Buffalo. She re- ceived her master of science degree in elementary and special education from Adelphi University. Beth teach- es special education in St. Clair Shores. Scott earned his bachelor of arts degree in accounting at MSU. He owns a dental supply and hand- piece repair business. A June wedding is planned at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.
