Gelberd declined to be interviewed
for this article and the Stephen Wise
Temple's director of education did not
return calls requesting confirmation of
Gelberd's position.
"We're sad to be losing Howard,"
said AJE President Lynda Giles. "He's a
fine administrator, and we're pleased
that he's developed a national reputa-
ci
tion because of his work in Detroit.
We're proud that L.A. has tapped him."
A search committee to find a new
executive director will be formed in
the coming months, said Giles.
Gelberd joined the AJE in 1992
after serving as executive director of
the Bureau of Jewish Education in San
Francisco.
