Mitzvah Candles
For Students

In an effort to recognize students who
perform at least six hours of their com-
munity mitzvah requirements at Yad
Ezra prior to their bar/bat mitzvah, the
• kosher food pantry will present these
students with a Yad Ezra Candle.
The specially designed candle can
be lit at the candle-lighting ceremony
at their celebration in recognition of
their mitzvah, and serve as a reminder
of those less fortunate in our commu-
nity who need our help.

Aid Hungry

Metro Detroiters can help to feed
hungry men, women and children in
our community. Forgotten Harvest,
metro Detroit's only prepared and per-
/- ishable food rescue program, sponsors
a "Have a Heart" program.
Participants may see contributions
doubled: Gifts of $25 or more
received between Feb. 4 and Feb. 14,
may be eligible for matching funds,
up to $1 million dollars.

Rabbi Olshin

The rosh yeshiva of the Lakewood
Yeshiva, Ray Yeruchim Olshin, will be

Rabbi and Mrs. Joseph Nusbaum,

Rabbi Boruch Levin, executive
director of the Hebrew Memorial
Chapel, will be master of ceremonies.

BBYO Plans
Conclave, Dance

Michigan Region BBYO will sponsor
two Young Leadership Conclaves
(YLC), Feb. 6-8 and Feb. 27-March
1. Each weekend program will be
held at the BBYO Milan Conference
Center in Belle River, Ontario,
Canada. YLCI coordinators are
Jonathan Shaye of Marx AZA and
Samantha Cohen of Disraeli BBG;
YLC2 coordinators are Adam Cresch
of Jolson AZA and Miriam
Lieberman of Ruach BBG.
Shira BBG will present its annual
Matzah Ball dance, "Planet
Hollywood," 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at
the Maple/Drake Jewish Community
Center. The program includes dancing,
raffle and prizes, food and games,
buddy pictures. Flowers will be on sale
for Valentine's Day. Admission is $6 or
$5 with a canned good.
Michigan Region Board of
Directors will hold its monthly meet-
ing 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, at
Maple/Drake. For information, call

Liturgical Music
Is Discussed

Troy-based Congregation Shir Tikvah
will host a lecture on Jewish music,
7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at a congre-
gant's home in Oak Park. The lecture,
titled "How Early Jewish Liturgical
Music was Influenced by the Time in
Which It was Developed," is part of
Shir Tikvah's adult education program.
Dr. Martin Herman, a retired musi-
cology professor from Wayne State
University, will focus on medieval and
17th century music and will bring
tapes and CDs to illustrate his points.
Refreshments will be served. For

`Summer' Party

Habonim will hold a summer party
