JCC Slates
Winter Classes

The Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit announces open
registration for its Winter II session
which will begin Sunday Feb. 4.
Classes are offered in sports and recre-
ation, art, music, dance, Judaic enrich-
ment, fun and learning, aquatics, spe-
cial needs and tennis. The Winter II
class session runs through April 4 at
the Maple/Drake and Jimmy Prentis
Morris buildings.
An introductory 50 percent off of
the following classes is being offered this
session: Critters & Creatures, Explore
the Rainforest Club, and Step into
Stories, all featuring instructor Anita
Cywiak of the Child Development
Center. Registrants save $5 per course
by registering before Jan. 25.

Rabbi Discusses
Role of Women

Jewish Federation Business and
Professional Women will hear Rabbi
Aaron Bergman of Congregation Beth
Abraham Hillel Moses at their next
dinner program, 6 p.m. Wednesday,
Feb. 4, at the synagogue. Rabbi
Bergman will speak on "The Changing
Role of Women in Judaism."
Reservations are due by Jan. 28. Fee

Machon Plans
Three Lectures

Machon L'Torah, the Jewish Learning
Network of Michigan, will hold a pro-
gram 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, at
Machon for the Russian outreach divi-
sion. The program will include an edu-
cational lecture by Rabbi Abraham
Jacobovitz on "Why Bad Things
Happen to Good People." Mr. Roman
Lundin will translate the lecture into
Russian simultaneously. Refreshments
will be served. There is no charge. For

Machon L'Torah will hold a four-
week winter semester of JudaiCollege
educational program on every other
Tuesday evening, starting Jan. 27 at
7:15 p.m. Rabbi Jacobovitz will lecture
on Pirkei Avot. The first class will be
"Learn to Smell the Roses." The class
will be held at the Maple/Drake JCC.
Machon will hold a lunch and learn
12:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, in Ann
Arbor. Rabbi Jacobovitz will lead a dis-
cussion on the first principle of
Maimonides, "What Do We Mean
When We Say God?" There is no

Tu B'Shevat
Learning Seders

Eilu v' Eilu, the adult Jewish learning
project co-sponsored by Congregations
Beth Abraham Hillel Moses, Beth
Shalom, and B'nai Moshe, Hillel Day
School, and Michigan Branch
Women's League for Conservative
Judaism, will offer evening and morn-

ing adult learning seders on Tu
B'Shevat, which falls on Tuesday, Feb.
10, and Wednesday, Feb. 11.
Participants may choose from a day
or evening format for their conve-
nience. The evening Tu B'Shevat seder
will be held 8 p.m. Tuesday Feb. 10,
at Congregation Beth Shalom. The
daytime version will be held 10:30
a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at
Congregation Beth Abraham Hillel
Moses.
The charge is $8 per person for
members of the sponsoring organiza-
tions and $10 per person for others.
Advance registration is required.
Eilu v' Eilu also is presenting a pre-
Tu B'Shevat study session, "Where
Heaven and Earth Meet: Torah and

Trees," 8 p.m. Wednesday Feb. 4,
hosted by Hillel Day School. This ses-
sion will be taught by Rabbi
Bergman. Tuition for the Feb. 4 study
session is $5 for Eilu v' Eilu members,
$7 for others. Students who sign up
for both Rabbi Bergman's pre-Tu
B'Shevat study session and either the
evening or daytime Tu B'Shevat seder
will enjoy a discount: both events for
a total of $10 for members and $12
for others.

Predicting Future
At Lunch, Learn

Forms of Predicting the Future" will be
the subject for a lunch and learn of the
Jewish Judicial Seminar 12:15 p.m.
Wednesday, Jan. 28, in the Riverside

Talmud Series
Is Offered

Congregation B'nai Moshe and the
Judaic Enrichment Department at the
Jewish Community Center of Metro
Detroit have announced plans to co-
sponsor a 12-part adult study series
titled "RSVP: Rabbinic Sources,
Visionary Perspectives," taught by
Rabbi Rod Glogower.
The class will meet on Tuesdays
from 10:30 to noon, starting Feb. 10,
in the upstairs level of the Janice
Charach Epstein Museum Gallery at
the Maple/Drake JCC. Tuition is $120
