Kerry Lobel, executive director of
the Washington, D.C.-based National
Gay and Lesbian Task Force, will
deliver the keynote address.
"A lot of what I'm going to talk
about in my speech is the importance
of Jewish students playing a key role
in the gay and lesbian movements,"
says Lobel, adding that Jews — while
/– active in the rank and file — tend to
be under-represented in the leadership
positions of gay and lesbian organiza-
tions.
"Part of that is because in many
[gay] communities, there has been a
tremendous disconnect between people
that identify as faith organizers and
people that identify as political organiz-
ers. But for Jews, the two are linked:
Faith fuels political activism."
