Litterbug Trial
Date Set

Huntington Woods
Titterer will take her case
to court in February.

LONNY GOLDSMITH
Staff Writer

M

ichelle Wilson, ticketed
for dumping anti-
Semitic literature on
Huntington Woods
lawns last summer, will go to trial on
Feb. 13 before Oak Park District
Judge Marvin Frankel.
Wilson, along with Tara Hopkins,
was nabbed July 13 for scattering
pamphlets titled, "FACTS That The
Government and the Media Don't
Want You To Know." The Detroiters
covered six blocks while distributing
their literature, before being stopped.
At the Tuesday pre-trial hearing,
Wilson's attorney, Jose Fanego, indi-
,— sated his client's desire to try the case
in front of a six-member jury.
At the initial hearing on Aug. 5,
Frankel rejected a conditional guilty
plea from Wilson, who offered it in
exchange for the return of 400 pam-
phlets confiscated by police from her
car.
At the Dec. 2 hearing, City Attor-
ney Joseph Longo agreed to return the
/- materials, which were found in her
car. Wilson decided not to plead
guilty, however.
According to Fanego, she believes
that distributing the literature was her
First Amendment right, and that in
her mind, she was "doing the citizens
of Huntington Woods a favor by giv-
ing them the pamphlet."
The pamphlets, published by The
/- Church of the Creator, feature an arti-
cle called "Jewish Media Control,"
and claim that the Jews led the slave
trade and that the Talmud calls for
the murder of gentiles.
Hopkins, Wilson's companion last
summer, was sentenced Tuesday to six
months probation and 10 hours of
community service, to be served fol-
lowing the birth of her child.
On Tuesday, the judge repeated an
order:
"I am foreclosing Wilson from see-
ing or talking to Hopkins — directly
or indirectly," Frankel said. "If she
does, she will sit in my jail until the
hearing."
