or the first time in its young
life, the Jimmy Prentis
Morris Jewish Community
Center health club has a
waiting list for -members.
The men's and
women's locker rooms,
which have a combined
capacity of 518 member
lockers, are filled with
exercisers.
"We have a waiting
list of 20 to 30 mem-
bers on the women's:
side," said JPM Health
Club Director Sue
Miller. "We are also get-
tingclose to full on the
men's side."
According to Miller,
at least 50 lockers will
be added to the
women's side, which '
currently has 218. The
members on the waiting
list are using the tall
lockers, generally not
for member use.
"A lot of the most

Miller said that word of mouth is
one of the reasons that the health club
is filling up so quickly.
"People most often say how conve-
nient this one is [compared to the
West Bloomfield JCC]," she said. "We

families," she said. "We've started to
do more programming for them,
including baby-sitting hours on
Monday and Wednesday evenings, as
well as Sunday morning."
At this time in 1995, the health
club had 250 members. In the last

"We have a lot of older clients here
who come during the day," she
explained.
Patron Bruce Silverman likes the
tennis and racquetball courts at the

also were offering 30-percent- off spe-
cials, and a free five-day pass. Once we
get them here, we usually can keep
them."
Even though there isn't much room
to expand the health club itself, Miller
said, there usually isn't a wait to use
the exercise eqUipment.

"I work nearby, so when I have a
break, I come here for a little bit," he
said after a recent workout in Oak
Park. "I'm more likely to use the other
facility with my family."
Silverman also likes the JPM staff..
"Sue and Glenda (Peet, who also
works in the health club) make coming
here a pleasant experience," he said.
Distance keeps Mary Weston of
Huntington Woods working out at
JPM rather than at Maple/Drake, but
he thinks the only difference between
the two health clubs is size.
"West Bloomfield is the same as
here, only bigger," he said. "There's
more of everything there, but it's too
far away. It's a whole expedition to get
there."
The JPM Health Club was built
four years ago when the Oak Park
building added a swimming pool. 0
