Andrew,Yahlcind
Andrew Yahkind will celebrate his bar
mitzvah at Temple Israel on Saturday,
Jan. 17. He is the son of Veronica and
Alexander
Yahkind, brother
of Michael and
grandson of Elya
and Lev Yahkind
and Raisa Borik
and the late
Michael Borik.
Volunteering at
the Holocaust
Memorial Center
was especially
important to Andrew because of the
link to his ancestors. Andrew is an
honor roll student at Orchard Lake
Middle School; his hobbies include
computers, chess and Tang-Soo-Do.

Nicole Lupiloff
Nicole Renee Lupiloff will observe
her bat mitzvah at Temple Israel on
Friday, Jan. 16.
She is the daugh-
ter of Debra Katz
and Gary and
Stacy Lupiloff,
sister of Monica
and grandchild of
Ruth and
Herbert Katz and
Marian and
Albert Lupiloff.
Proud great-grandmother is Flora
Weisberg.
Among her mitzvah projects was
delivering Meals on Wheels. Attending
Orchard Lake Middle School, Nicole
is interested in tennis, softball,
rollerblading and music.

Bradley LaBret
Bradley David LaBret will be called to
the Torah as a bar mitzvah on Friday,
Jan. 16, at Temple Israel. He is the son
of Carla and
Thomas LaBret,
brother of Nicole
and grandchild of
Judie LaBret,
Sheldon LaBret
and Eugene
Scartozzi.
Assisting
seniors at the
Fleischman
Residence was
part of his mitzvah project. Brad
attends Orchard Lake Middle School
and enjoys rollerblading and snow-
boarding.

Bookstein-Driker

Lorraine and Jerome Bookstein and
Elaine and Eugene Driker are pleased
to announce the engagement of their
children, Jennifer Ivy and Stephen Joel.
Jennifer graduated from Wellesley
College and Wayne State University
School of Medicine. She is a first-year
resident in internal medicine at
Northwestern (Memorial Hospital) in
Chicago.
Stephen graduated from Tufts
University and is in his final year of
medical school at Wayne State
University.
A June wedding is planned.

Varverakis-Blau

Drs. Diane and I arty Blau happily
announce the engagement of their
daughter Cheryl Beth to Michael
George Varverakis, son of Maryann
and John Varverakis.
Cheryl received her bachelor's and
master's degrees in education from
Occidental College and her doctorate
in restructuring education and educa-
tional leadership at the Union Institute
Graduate School. She teaches social
studies to seventh- and eighth-grade
students at Birney Middle School in
Southfield. Dr. Blau also is actively
