Eleven agencies nationwide received
equipment for youth programs. The
JCC was the only Jewish agency
selected as a recipient. The
Maple/Drake JCC will receive a por-
tion of the equipment.
"It's a great honor for us to be
selected," said Leslie Bash, director of
the JPM facility. "It's exciting, because
this coincides with Detroit hosting the
JCC Maccabi Games this summer,
and some of the equipment will be
used for that."

According to JCC Executive
Director David Sorkin, the dollar
value the equipment represents what is
generally budgeted for an entire year.
Boxer Al Jones, figure skater Kitty
Caruthers and swimmer Sheila
Taormina, three past Olympians who
are from and reside in the Detroit
area, also were on hand to speak to the
crowd and meet the kids.
"This will be a great help to the
facility, and to programming," Bash
