Preserving the Traditions
of the Jewish Heritage

ManorCare Health Services' Magen Tikvah program is devoted
exclusively to our Jewish residents.

In every aspect of life, Magen Til6Tah strives to provide the best.
In religion. Lifestyle. Sense of community. And, of course, health care.

Program Features:

Harris reports there still are some
baggy cuts out there, especially for
clothes inspired by Generation X
snowboarders and skateboarders but,
overall, the look is form-fitting leg-
gings, jumpsuits and bike shorts.
However, it may take some time for
this designer influence to be felt in
gyms across the country.
Shape recently did a survey of
workout wear at gyms in several cities
and found that women wear bike
shorts and bra tops in basic colors,
even in style-conscious cities like Los
Angeles and New York.
"People will wear what they want
to wear," says Harris. But designer-
inspired hues and cuts may eventually
bring more style and choice to Ameri-
ca's gyms.

Colors and cuts aside, fitness-wear
designer Gilda Marx says the biggest
news is in the fabrics used to create
the clothes. High-performance "mois-
ture-management threads are the key
to keeping sweaty bodies comfortable.
"Fabric is very important," says
Marx. "It's more about the comfort of
a fabric and its ability to wick mois-
ture from the skin."
Supplex, CoolMax and a newer
fabric Marx is using called DriGear
are all quick-drying synthetics
designed to keep exercisers cool and
dry. Cotton, for example, is soft, but
gets wet and stays wet while these
fibers transfer perspiration from the
skin so it can evaporate quickly.
This is an issue when you're exercis-
ing indoors or outside during warm-
weather months. But these light, effi-
cient fabrics are helpful during winter,
too. Wearing a couple of layers of
moisture-wicking fabrics topped with
a breathable, wind-blocking shell will
keep exercisers warm and comfortable
for a chilly outdoor workout.
And if you hit the road before
dawn or after dark, look for pieces
with strips of reflecting fabric or even
fabrics that incorporate reflecting
material throughout the garment. ❑
