Central High. Also Herb Gelfand,
current president of the local Jewish
Welfare Federation. Both graduated in
the late '40s.
"Harriett Weider, who graduated in
'38, was a supervisor in Orange Coun-
ty for many years. Morley Grant, who
graduated with me in '34, built many
of the skyscrapers on Wilshire Boule-
vard in his prime. Dave Grant of the
1934 grads was Howard Hughes' co-
pilot on the Spruce Goose's only flight
in World War II. Elm Weingarden of
our Central class introduced Waste
King garbage disposals to the world.
"The entertainment field has been
enhanced with Lily Tomlin, who once
was an usherette at the Avalon Theater
on Linwood, and actresses Piper Lau- _ y
rie and Mitzi Gaynor. I even hear that
Ed McMahon and Rowan and Martin
(Dan Rowan and Dick Martin) started
in Motown, and I knew Danny
Thomas when he was on Chuck Stan-
ley's Happy Hour Club over NXTMBC,
