Sports Events
The Temple Beth El Brotherhood annu-
al sports night will be paired this year
with a sports afternoon at the Joe Louis
Arena. Featured at the first event, 6 p.m.
Sunday, Jan. 18, will be a member of
the Detroit Rockers teaching the finer
points of soccer to kids, parents, grand-
parents and sports fans at the temple.
There will be hot dogs, chili, chips and
ice cream for all, plus prizes for the chil-
dren. Cost of the event, which is open
to the community, is $4 per person with
a maximum fee of $12 per family.
Reservation deadline is Wednesday, Jan.

Night.
On Sunday, Feb. 8, there will be an
opportunity to meet all the Rockers at a
Brotherhood Sports Afternoon at the
Joe Louis Arena co-sponsored by the
Temple's Jewish Adventurers. The after-
noon will begin at 1:30 p.m. with a
pizza snack and soda and an opportuni-
ty to meet the players and get their
autographs. At 3 p.m., the group will
enjoy the Rockers - Baltimore Spirit
game. Special block seats have been
reserved. Cost of the event is $12 per
person; busing from Temple Beth El to
the arena is available at $4 per person.

Ice Skating
The Adat Shalom Synagogue Men's
Club and Youth and Education
Department will sponsor a family ice
skating party, 3:30-6:30 p.m. Sunday,
Jan. 18, at the Farmington Hills Ice
Arena, 35500 Eight Mile Road.
Plans include a pizza dinner. There is
a $7.50 charge per skater and a $5 fee
per non-skater. Skates may be rented at
the arena for $2.

Workshops
For Families
Adat Shalom Synagogue will present
Family Connections, featuring 13 inter-
active lectures and workshops 7 p.m.
Saturday, Jan. 24, at the synagogue. A
special Havdalah service will be led by
Cantor Howard Glantz. Participants
may then attend two, one-hour work-
shops, followed by an afterglow with
desserts, coffee and jazz music.
During the 7:45-8:45 p.m. session,
Rabbi Rich Kirschen, assistant director
of University of Michigan Hillel, will
discuss "College Campus: Cross-
Currents of Culture;" Rabbi Efry
Spectre will give a talk for Jewish travel-
ers, "Identification Papers, Finding the
Familiar in Far Away Places;" Dr. Sylvia
Hacker, associate professor, University of
Michigan, will talk about "Sex in the
Year 2000 — If Not Sooner!;" author
and funeral director David Techner will
offer a workshop on "Talking To Your
Children About Death;" Dr. Alicia
Tisdale, clinical psychologist, will look
at "Parenting As Peacefully as Possible;"
Janet Distelzweig, instructor "Creative
Memories," will conduct a class on
"Organizing the Family Photographs;"
and Dr. Irma Starr, director of SPACE
for Changing Families, will explore
"Single Parenting in the '90s."
From 9-10 p.m., "What's Up Doc?"
will feature a pediatric panel including
Drs. Robert Blum, Jeffrey Devries, Amy
Dunn, Irvin Kappy, Marty Levinson,
Michael Treblin and Vicki Solway;
Rabbi Daniel Nevins will talk about
"Jewish Genealogy: How to Dig Up
Your Family's Roots;" Nathan Upfal,
attorney, will discuss "Estate Planning:
When Leaving Will Alone Won't Do;"
