Humorist Allan Lieberman
brings his parodies to West Bloomfield.

A

Ilan Lieberman's religious
awakening came a few years
after he began to celebrate,
in his own quirky fashion,
his Jewishness.
The singer-songwriter spent 15
years selling real estate before he left
behind the daily grind and began
recording some of the parodies that
popped into his head.

You'll make your parents happy if you
stay away from blondes,
Thank God IM a Jewish boy.
Well, I got my menorah and I've got
a dreidel,
When IM feeling sick I get soup with
kneidels,
There ain't nothing better than a yid-
dishe maidl,
Thank God I'm a Jewish boy..
Lieberman, 51, was reared in a sec-
ular Jewish home, albeit one in the
midst of a neighborhood in Chicago
that was "so Jewish
that a teacher in
grammar school who
was also Jewish told
Bernard Moy to
have his mother
excuse him from
school because
nobody was there ot
the High Holy
Days."
Four years ago,
Lieberman rediscov-
ered his Judaism
through a Chabad
House in Chicago
and today considers
himself a
Lubavitcher. At 8:3C
p.m. Saturday, Jan.
17, the Evanston,
Ill., resident will per-
form at the Chabad
House in West
Bloomfield for the
shul's Melava Malka.
The cost, including
dinner, is $18.
Rabbi Elimelech-
Silberberg, who
found Lieberman
through the
"Chabad network,"
said the Saturday
night dinner shows
have attracted close
to 200 people, even
during a recent snowstorm.
After recording the single,
"Thank God," in 1989, Lieberman,
under the aegis of Le Beau
Productions, recorded Ha Ha
Hanukah, Deli Tunes and his latest, It's
The Miracle, which includes only one
parody among a collection of "light"
