dren try to make the written word
appear like what it defines. Can
they make the word D-O-G look like
one? How about T-R-E-E?

18. Annual Tangerine Day:
Have children make up a holiday,
complete with activities and greet-
ing cards.

19. The Milky Way: Visit your
favorite produce shop and buy fresh
fruit. Cut into small pieces, then
have children take turns concocting
their own drinks. Some other possi-
ble ingredients: ice cream, yogurt,
chocolate sauce. Parental supervi-
sion may be required for the
blender.

20. The Eyes Have It: (This will
require some preparation.)
Photocopy pictures of extended
family (larger photos work best),
then cut out individual facial fea-
tures. Affix to poster board and see
if participants can guess which
nose belongs to Uncle Harry, and
which lips are those of Aunt Rose.

21. It's In The Cards: Use stur-
dy construction paper, or white
cardboard, to cut out rectangles
about 5"x 3". Have children draw
on the front, then use for postcards
to Grandma and Grandpa.

22. The Nose Knows: You will
need a large box and about 10
finds with an interesting smell. Hide
everything behind the box, then ask
each participant to close his eyes.
Quickly wave the featured item
below the noses of everyone, and
ask them to write down their guess.
Please, be tasteful when playing
this. No one wants to smell your
stinky socks.

23. Just Call Me Picasso: Buy
a piece of butcher paper, then
drape it around the wall in your
den or playroom. Have everyone
make a mural together, perhaps
showing a day in your family's life.
(Note: be careful about which pens

25. Who Is It? This fun project
will result in a mystery being. The
first person draws a head, then
folds the paper down to the top of
the neck. The second draws the
body, then folds it down to the top
of the legs. The third person draws
the legs and feet. When everyone
is done, the paper is unfolded to
reveal something quite silly.

26. Balloon Messages (NOT
SUITABLE FOR SMALL CHILDREN):
Write fun messages and place
inside balloons, before you blow
them up. Messages should focus on
an activity (for example: "Let's Play
A Game of Cards!" or "Let's Watch
Your Favorite Video!"). The child
pops a balloon, the message falls
out, then everyone does what it
says inside.

27. A New View: Allow your
child to rearrange the furniture in his
room any way he wants.

28. Drawing Power: Each per-
son walks around the house and
makes a quick sketch of five items
easily visible. Everyone else tries to
guess what he has drawn.

29. The Play's The Thing:
Write a play about your family life,
then perform it.

30. Tell Me A Story: Each par-
ticipant makes up a story, then tells
it, in privacy, into the tape recorder.
As the day comes to an end, every-
one can hear the stories.

Forget the calories. If you've actual-
ly done and survived all these activ-
ities with your children, you deserve
an entire carton of the really fatten-
ing stuff.
