Currency Reforms
Start In Jan.

Jerusalem (JPFS) — The Bank of
Israel announced the implementation
on Jan. 1 of a series of currency liber-
alization measures first disclosed in
August.
The new measures include:
• Israelis may purchase foreign cur-
rency to open foreign currency
deposits in Israel.
• Restrictions on trading in foreign
currency futures will be lifted.
In addition, the central bank
announced measures deregulating the
liquidity of commercial bank assets in
foreign currency.

FDA Approval
For Perio Products

Jerusalem (JPFS) — Perio Products of
Jerusalem announced that the U.S.
Food and Drug Administration grant-
ed marketing approval for PerioChip,
a treatment for periodontitis, a leading
cause of tooth loss in adults.
PerioChip is a biodegradable poly-
mer chip that can fit into pockets in
the gums. The PerioChip will be
marketed in the U.S. by Astra USA,
an American supplier of dental anes-
thetic.

Israel, China
Agriculture Pact

Jerusalem (JPFS) — Israel and China
on Wednesday signed an agricultural
agreement paving the way for greater
cooperation between the two coun-
tries.
The agreement, signed by Agricul-
ture Minister Rafael Eitan and his
counterpart Liu Jiang, will lead to
increased exports to China of agricul-
tural produce, technology, and invest-
ment, ministry Director- General
Danny Krichman said on Thursday.
The agreement, based on talks in
May when Eitan visited Beijing,
includes the establishment of a joint
research and development center in
(--/
China and a joint research fund (the
sum to be contributed by the partners
has yet to be fixed). Additionally, an
experimental flower-producing area
will be set up in China. Israeli compa-
nies are already beginning work on the
flower project.
