amities with young children
sometimes stay indoors when
the weather turns cold and
blustery. But for those of you with
older children who are willing
to brave the elements, I have dis-
covered a real winter wonder-
land called the Fridge — and I
don't mean the one in your
kitchen!
It's a man-made, frozen tobog-
gan run and is one feature of the
Winter Sports complex at the
Waterford Oaks County Park, in
Waterford.
The Fridge has been open for
three winters and consists of two
refrigerated flumes that keep the
run iced. It is well-lit and on a big
hill with a long stretch and a few
rises. Because it's outside, it is
open only when conditions are
'-' right. The toboggans are the long,
wood ones you remember from
childhood.
The Winter Sports complex has
been expanded this year at
Waterford Oaks to include two
ice- skating rinks and a hill
groomed especially for sledding.
Admission rates to ride The
Fridge are as follows: children
30" - 43" — $4, all others —
$8. Oakland County residents
taller than 43" get in for $6, and
anyone under 30" cannot ride.
Hours of operation for The
_ Fridge are Tuesday through
– Friday, 4 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.;
Saturday, 10 a.m. - 9:30 p.m. .;
Sunday, 12 p.m. - 8 p.m. Call
(248) 975-4440 after 1 :30 p.m.
on the day you plan to visit to
make sure The Fridge is open. ❑
