Bronfman
Fellowships

Applications are now available for
the 1998 Bronfman Youth
Fellowships in Israel. The fellowships
offer an opportunity for 26 students
- entering the 12th grade to spend five
weeks in Israel this summer. Fellows
will be chosen on the basis of charac-
ter, intellectual interests, special tal-
ents and leadership qualities. In the
competitive selection process, merit,
not financial need, is the standard
for selection.
The Bronfman Youth Fellowships
program begins on July 6, 1998,
with a two-day seminar in New York
City. The students return from Israel
on August 12. All meals will be
kosher, and Sabbath activities will be
in the spirit of the day. All expenses
are covered by the program, includ-
ing round-trip international trans-
portation, room and board, travel in
Israel and incidentals.
High school students in the
United States and Canada, who will
be in 12th grade in the fall of 1998,
may request an application form and
detailed information by mail at the
Bronfman Youth Fellowships in
Israel, 17 Wilbur Street, Albany, NY,
12202; by telephone at (518) 465-
6575; by fax at (518) 432-8984; by
e-mail at yfi@bronfman.org . Visit
our web page at:
http://bronfman.org .
Completed applications must be
postmarked no later than January 30,
1998. Finalists will be notified
March 15. Names of the 1998
Fellowship recipients will be
announced on March 31.

This year's Chanukah Activity
Center & Dreidel House will be
housed in the lobby of the
Maple/Drake Jewish Community
Center throughout the Chanukah
holiday.
The Activity Center, a program of
Ganeinu Preschool & Bais
Menachem Academy, is designed to
enhance the children's enjoyment for
this holiday. The central focus is a
structure designed to look like a
large dreidel. The children will be
able to watch a Chanukah video,
play games and have a chance to take
a photo with "Judah the Macabee."
Admission is free for the Dreidel
House, which will be open 11 a.m. -
4 p.m. through Wednesday, Dec. 31.
On Sunday, Dec. 28, there will be
a special and expanded program in
addition. There will be a $2.50
admission charge for this program.
On Tuesday, Dec. 30, the Daniel
Soble Friendship Circle will sponsor
an evening in conjunction with The
Detroit Jewish News for special
needs children. For information, call
the Friendship Circle, (248) 855-
1212.
For information or group reserva-
tions, call Rabbi Yitzchok Bergstein,
(248) 932-2889.
