Dr. Steven D. Grant was elected
president of the Holocaust Memorial
Center (HMC) at the organization's
recent annual meeting. Grant is ad
internist maintaining a private prac-
tice in Farmington Hills. He has
served on the HMC board of direc-
tors in various capacities since 1984.
A longtime supporter of commu-
nity causes, Dr. Grant has served on
the board of Men's ORT, as head of
the 1993 Walk for Israel, has
coached Little League in
Farmington-West Bloomfield, and
served as resident physician at Camp
Tanuga in Kalkaska.
Saul Waldman, outgoing HMC
president, was elected treasurer and

coordinator of development. Area
businessman Alan Zekelman was
elected to the office of first vice pres-
ident while Lawrence S. Jackier,
Alexander Karp and Shaarit
Haplaytah President Abraham
Weberman were re-elected as vice
presidents.
Gustav Berenholz was returned to
the position of chairman of the exec-
utive committee. Executive commit-
tee members reelected at the meeting
include Alexander Ehrmann, Leon
Halpern, Dr. Kristina Kochanowski,
Abraham Pasternak, Dr. David
Silberg, George Vine and Martin S.
Water.

the Plaza Hotel in Southfield, dedicat-
ed to the celebration of the 50th
anniversary of the founding of the State
of Israel.

As one of Akiva's founders and its
first president, Mr. Koenigsberg has
served the school in many capacities.
In addition to his years of service at
Akiva, he has been active in the Young
Israel community, as well as the Jewish
community at large, for nearly 40
years.
Mrs. Koenigsberg began teaching 40
years ago and served as Akiva's kinder-
garten teacher for 14 years. She retired
in 1995 to prepare for their upcoming
aliyah.

Benefactors Host
Chanukah Par

The benefactors of the Jewish Home and Aging
Services and their families will host the eighth
annual Chanukah party for the residents of the
Fleischman Residence/Blumberg Plaza 1:3.0-3:30
p.m., Sunday Dec. 28.
Sandor Slomovits of Gemini will perform
Chanukah, folk and spiritual music for this
intergenerational program. There will be family
portraits by Bob Benyas, latkes and a candle-
lighting ceremony. Gifts will be distributed by the benefac-
tors' host families Bonnie and Mark Kowalsky and family and Michele and Marc
Borovoy and family. The community is invited. Donations will be accepted at
the door.
