where he lives and to his circle of low-
brow friends, among them his best
buddy Chuckie (Affleck).
The professor tracks him down and
saves him from a jail sentence by
promising to get him counseling. Will
has no trouble flummoxing a series of
therapists, and so the profesS'or turns
to Sean (Robin Williams), an old
friend he hasn't seen in years. They
were once schoolmates, but their
careers have taken different routes, the
professor's to MIT., Sean's to teach-
ing psychology in a minor college.
Lambeau knows that Sean has the
same South Boston background as
Will — maybe the psychologist can
get through the furious defenses of the
young genius.
Meanwhile, Will has complicated
his life by finding another winning
ticket in the form of Skylar (Minnie
Driver), a British medical student at
Harvard; she's smart, pretty, rich and
she loves him with all her heart. And,
of course, he can't stand that.
Damon and Affleck have woven
their themes cleverly: Will has to let
go of his negativity in order to realize
his full potential. But then so does
Sean, who has his own wounds to lick.
