Youth Awards
The National Council of Jewish
Women, Greater Detroit Section, will
sponsor the annual Jewish Youth
Awards. One student will receive
$1,000.
To qualify, a student must be a high
school senior with at least a 3.0 grade
point average, have a formal Jewish edu-
cation (having become bar/bat mitzvah,
been consecrated or confirmed, or
attended Monday school); be actively
involved in the Jewish community; and
submit the completed application form,
a signed letter of recommendation from
a person in authority from the sponsor-
ing organization, temple or synagogue,
L and a one-page typed essay on the topic,
"How Important is Jewish Unity?"
All applicants must submit eight (8)
copies of all materials to the NCJW
office, 26400 Lahser Road, Suite 100,
Southfield, MI 48034, prior to Jan. 23,
1998.
Convention Set
For BBYO
Michigan Region B'nai Writh Youth
Organization will hold its annual
regional convention from Sunday Dec.
21, through Thursday Dec. 25, at the
Maple/Drake Jewish Community
Center.
The program includes competition
in a variety of categories, social events
and council meetings. The events being
held during the convention are the
bowling tournament on Tuesday after-
noon, Dec. 23, 1:30-4:40 p.m. at
Country Lane in Farmington; the talent
show on Monday evening, Dec. 22, 8-
10 p.m. at Shaarey Zedek; and the
dressy dance on Wednesday evening,
Dec. 24, 8:30-11:30 p.m. at Beth
Abraham Hillel Moses.
