Study Programs
In Israel

Applications and brochures for the
1998 Israel Summer Programs of
Masada/Maccabi are available at the
Zionist Organization of America
office in Southfield, 18451 West 10
Mile Road; (248) 569-1515.
Nine programs are available for
high school and college students,
incluCling a teen-age tour for ages
13-15; a leadership training program
for ages 16-18 with a stopover in
either Prague or Rome; an adventure
program for those who like the
rugged outdoors; a music experience
program for applicants who play a
musical instrument and wish to
enhance their knowledge from Israeli
musicians. The Mifgashin program
provides cross-cultural encounters
with Israeli peers; a scuba and
sports program; and a late summer
condensed program, which includes
crossing the desert by jeep or
camel.
Detroit ZOA offers scholarships
to deserving applicants.

Machon L'Torah, the Jewish
Learning Network of Michigan, and
the Jewish Resource Center of Ann
Arbor will present the 10th annual
Chanukah concert 7 p.m. Tuesday,

Israeli Consul Eitan Naeh will kick
off Detroit Jewry's recognition and
celebration of Israel's 50th year of
independence with an Akiva Hebrew
Day School program 3 p.m. Tuesday,
Dec. 23.
Neah's remarks will be followed
by a student skit on the theme of
Israel at 50, a Chanukah candle-
lighting and the singing of holiday
and Israeli songs.
The program is free and open to
the public. It is sponsored by Akiva

Hebrew Day School, in cooperation
with the Jewish Community Council
and the Michigan/Israel Connection
of the Jewish Federation.

Social Security
For Survivors?

Holocaust survivors who worked in
the Lodz ghetto (Litzmanstadt) in
Poland may be eligible for social
security from the German govern-
ment. According to the German
Consulate, each claim will be judged
on its own merit. Complete guide-
lines will be forthcoming.

Beit Kodesh
Latke Party

Congregation Beit Kodesh will have
its annual Chanukah latke party 5
p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, at the syna-
gogue. There will be entertainment
and a 50/50 raffle drawing.

JWV Plan
For Veterans

This Christmas, a bus will depart the
JWV Memorial Home at 8 a.m. to
bring each of the several hundred
Battle Creek VA Hospital patients
fruits, clothing and sundry items to
be distributed at a bingo party.
The event, under the direction of
Roy Green, Post Commander Milton_a
Klein and auxiliary President Shirley
Marshall, and supervised by co-
chairman Bernie Hoffman and
Shirley Weiss, is financed mainly by
May poppy sales.
Silverman Post Commander
Robert Feldman and Sandy Feldman
will lead members to the Saginaw
Hospital for a day of bingo and
gifts as well. Department Chaplain
Tom Tannis and Department
Adviser Martha Hauptman will take
other members to the Ann Arbor
Hospital.
