This first annual award has been created to recognize
outstanding creative achievement in Fine Arts, Humanities,
JeWish Education and Continuity as a vital force in Jewish life.

Awards (a cash prize) will be given for overall excellence
of a body of work and- the meaningfulness of its contri-
bution to the quality and continuity of Jewish life in
Michigan. In the category of organizations and institu-
tions no cash prize will be awarded. Instead, the winner
in this category will receive a certificate of recognition
and will be acknowledged publicly at the awards presen-
tation ceremony in June of 1998. Individuals must reside
in Michigan, Organizations must be based in Michigan.

An "Israel Dream Lottery" for college
students who would like to spend a
period of time in Israel is being offered
by the Women's Campaign and
Education Department of the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.
The Women's Department will
award cash prizes in the amount of
$2,000 for a semester program or up to
$1,000 for shorter programs.
Metropolitan Detroit-area students age
30 and under who have completed one
year of college by June 1998 and are
enrolled at any college or university are
eligible.
The cash prize may be applied
toward any program approved by the
Michigan/Israel Connection of the
Jewish Federation. Deadline for entry
forms is Friday, Feb. 27, 1998. The
drawing will take place Friday, March
6, and prizes must be used by Sept. 1,
1999.
At least 20 prizes will be given. Only
one entry is allowed per person.
Applicants may be eligible for addi-
tional financial assistance toward the
cost of the Israel experience through
various other sources.
The Women's Department is fund-
ing the award program with a portion
of increased contributions to the Allied
Jewish Campaign.
Entry forms are available at syna-
gogues, temples, campus Hillels and
the Michigan/Israel Connection of the
Jewish Federation, 6735 Telegraph,
Bloomfield Hills.

NCSY Plans
Teen Events

The Israeli Culture Club is held every
other Tuesday at Southfield Lathrup at
11:30 a.m. At Berkley, it is every other
Wednesday at noon.
Every Tuesday night there is a Teen
Torah Center (TTC) at the AJE; for

The Mildred Levitz Scholars Retreat
(Yarchie Kallah), will take place
Sunday, Dec. 28 through Sunday, Jan.

Meeting Set

The Business and Professional/Pisgah
Chapter, Jewish Women International
will hold a general meeting 12:30
p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, at Whitehall
Apartments Clubhouse, 16176
Cumberland Road, Southfield.
Chanukah will be celebrated with
the candlelighting ceremony and tra-
ditional refreshments. A social after-
noon is planned with door prizes.
There is a nominal charge. Guests and
