almost since creation, said Tokayer,
who referred to a Talmudic passage
which states that after death one is
asked if he took advantage of all the
permitted pleasures of the world.
In addition to the kosher meals,
• there will be daily religious services
for participants, and Tokayer will
give lectures on Jewish religious
themes.
Tokayer said 50 people will partic-
ipate in the mid-December tour
aboard the Marco Polo, a cruise ship
equipped with a kosher kitchen.
Space was limited because of ecologi-
cal concerns a large tour would pre-
sent.
The tour, organized by Lotus
Tours of New York, is slated to take
place during the Antarctic summer,
the mildest time of year on the harsh
continent.

Turkey Defends
Defense Pact

Jerusalem (JPFS) — Turkey has
rebuffed growing pressure from Arab
states to cancel its military pact with
Israel.
In Teheran, representatives gathering
for the Organization of the Islamic
Conference, led by Syria, are seeking a
strong condemnation of Turkey for the
military alliance.
Israel has signed a similar military
pact with Greece, but it remains an
agreement in principle, since Athens is
reluctant to further develop defense
ties.

philanthropist George Soros is boost-
ing the bank .balance of the jewish
Fund for Justice by $1.3 million —
his second-ever gift to a:Jewish organi-
zation.
His. Open Society Institute's
Emma Lazarus Fund gave $1.3 mil-
lion to the Council of Jewish
Federations in August to fund natu-
ralization programs for immigrants,
primarily Jews from the former
Soviet Union.
The group raises money in the
Jewish community and distributes it
to community organizations across the
United States.
