Professor Brown was the founding director of the Center for Academic Ethics at the university. He taught ethics, philosophy of education, moral judgment in education and related courses. He also directed many students in their master's degree essays and doctoral dis- sertations. From 1983-85, he was president of WSU's University Council. He also served on the Board of Governors Development and Public Affairs Committee. Professor Brown was active in many national education leadership associa- tions, including the Philosophy of Education Society, Society of Professors of Education, Phi Delta Kappa, John Dewey Society and the Council of Learned Societies in Education.
