And their aim to create its own image is admirable ... That of only being a restaurant first and fore- most. So far, it is on the right track. SECOND PLACE in Restaurant Hospitality magazine's 1997 Top of the Table Awards competition has been given to Ristorante Cafe Corti- na, 10 Mile, east of Orchard Lake Road. "Artistic leanings are distinctly Italian at Ristorante Cafe Cortina in Farmington Hills, Michigan," says Restaurant Hospitality in its Novem- ber issue. "Since opening in 1976, the restaurant has focused on the heart and soul of Italian cooking. "Menus as well as the tablesettings reflect the heritage of owners Rina Tonon and Adrian Tonon. Show- plates and dinnerware are made in Italy by family and friends, and have been brought back to the restaurant by the owners when they travel. "Some of the signature items include an appetizer of imported mozzarella and thinly sliced prosciut- to, a mixed grill entree of herbed lamb, beef and chicken, and a dessert of marinated fresh fruit with mascar- pone. "Daily check average in this 180- seat restaurant is $80 per couple; the cost of four placesettings is about $468. Flatware: Oneida. Water gob- lets: Arcoroc. Wine Glasses: Libbey Glass. Napery: Marathon Linens." THE HOUSE was built in 1929 ... But renovations by Roseann and Sandy Duncan have brought back the interior look of the 1100s French chateau it is patterned after.
