sion of the Pilot is called the Palm
Pilot Pro (about, $399 + modem).
Newton has its own version, the Mes-
sagePad 2000 ($950-$1,200) which is
good for someone often on the road
who can use it as a portable computer,
downloading e-mail with an optional
modem ($129).
When Microsoft released a version
_,9f its Windows operating system this
year specifically for pocket PC's called
Windows CE, a slew of other compa-
nies entered their pocket organizers -
Casio, Compac and Hewlett Packard.
The new pocket-size Sharp SE-
5000 mobile organizer with PC syn-
chronization has all the familiar Sharp
scheduler and anniversary functions,
contact and data files.It also comes
with a cradle and software link to a
desktop PC to synchronize files. The
built-in modem givese-mail access
through your Internet service
provider.Selling at under $330 at
RadioShack, you can write directly on
the touch screen or use the notes func-
tion to attach to your computer.
Also new for this year is the Sharp
Wizard OZ-650PC, which includes
the Daytimer organizer with the stan-
dard Wizard data and schedule man-
agement features for under $220.And
for those who want to end the guess-
work of who's paging, add the new
Dayrunner planner and directory with
Pager ID to your wish list. The caller's
name is displayed if its stored in the
directory's 75-name memory (65-
740).For under $20 it also has a paper
,,,planner that helps organize appoint-
ments, an alarm, calculator and clock.
Calendar refills sell for $4.
Among the smallest organizers is
RadioShack's card-size organizer (EC-
287) selling for $12. The directory stores
up to 50 names and phone numbers,
has an alarm to remind of appoint-
ments, a 10-digit calculator, calendar,
clock and alarm and currency converter.
The lightweight electronic 64k
Rolodex stores 800 data files of per-
sonal information in three different
phone directories and features an
Internet directory (for Internet
addresses, names and the descriptions),
a schedule and a to-do list that can be
prioritized and a lock function to keep
your privacy. Priced under $50, the
