smaLL BITES Sally Haberman with some of her Tabs for Tots Sally Haberman is doing more than a great job recycling when she asks everyone she knows for soda- oop tabs. Haberman, of Farmington Hills, is part of a group that collects the alu- minum tabs for money, which is promptly used to support projects (most of them for children) at local hospitals. Its called Tabs for Tots. "We get paid so much per pound for the tabs, which is in turn used rtor purchasing hospital equipment," ;Haberman said. The group is working toward the purchase of a special pediatric bed for children, while past projects include buying numerous kidney dialysis machines — "all by saving these tabs," Haberman says. "Twelve [kidney dialysis machines] for our area hospitals already ...have been donated and your tabs have gone a long way in help- ing reach that goal," reads one fan letter from Berkley. So far, Tabs for Tots has pur- chased medical equipment for hos- pitals throughout the state including Detroit, Livonia, Farmington Hills, Calumet, Dearborn, Garden City, Holland, Battle Creek, Adrian, Jackson and Port Huron. Collect your tabs and call Sallie at (248) 477-3962, or (248) 350-3849, or drop them off at the Monaghan Council Hall #2690, 19801 Farm Road (between Seven and Eight Mile roads) in Livonia.
