A librarian, Mrs. Herbst was a honor graduate of University of Michigan and Wayne State. She began her career at the Bloomfield Township Library as part-time reference librarian in 1978. She was promoted to first assistant in the reference department, then head of the department and then to head of the Adult Services Department in 1995. She was an active member of the Michigan Library Association. She pioneered and lectured throughout the state on using the computer in med- ical research. Mrs. Herbst was a mem- ber of Beta Phi Mu International Library Science Honor Society. Mrs. Herbst is survived by her hus- band, Norman Herbst; sons and a fiancee, Bradley Herbst and Merrie White of West Bloomfield and Jonathon Herbst of West Bloomfield; parents, Dr. Jack and Ruby Lawson of West Bloomfield; sister and brother- in-law, Eileen and Lawrence Hyman of West Bloomfield; brother, Bruce Lawson of Florida; daughter-in-law of Fred Herbst of West Bloomfield.
