"When I had it in my car
this summer, people would
stop and get out of their cars
just to see it."
The rest of the evening for
most of the kids, not to men-
tion many of the adults, was
reserved for picture taking
and autograph seeking of the
four inductees to the Hall of
Fame: Aaron Krickstein,
Jackie Kallen, Al Ackerman
and Reggie McKenzie, as well
as other celebrities.
But even Ackerman
stopped giving autographs to hug an
old Detroit Tiger player he used to
report on when at Channels 4 and 7:
Willie Horton.
"I haven't seen Willie in over 15
years," Ackerman said. "I also got to
see (former Red Wing) Bill Gadsby
who I haven't seen in some time."
And Kallen, who has spent time as
the publicist for the Kronk Boxing
Team in Detroit and worked with
famed boxer Thomas Hearns, was in
awe of former Detroit Lions tight
end Charlie Sanders.
During the induction ceremony,
WDFN afternoon host Mike Stone,
one of the masters of ceremonies,
recalled working for Ackerman at

Channel 4.
After the induction of the four
athletes, I wandered back towards
the Cup.
Apparently, a couple of kids at th
dinner figured that anyone who had
on a badge was someone important.
They saw mine, and a boy not even
8 years old took off his hat and
handed it to me with a black marke
I thought maybe he didn't warn
the hat and pen in his picture of the
Cup. He stood there looking at me,
waiting for me to do something. He
wanted my autograph.
"I'm a writer at The Jewish News,
I tried telling him. "I'm not famous.
"I don't care," he said.
