JEWISH TITERS. For centuries Jews have formed communities to care for one another, to strengthen their connections and to make sure no one is left out in the cold. Today, with so many divergent views on the issue of religious diversity and unity, it makes you wonder if the idea and ideals of Jewish community are dead. * The fact 9f the matter is they're not. In the United States, your United Jewish Appeal Federation system is your community. It is the world leader in the rescue and care of the Jewish people and in the strengthening of Jewish life. And nowhere is that more clear than in the struggle for religious diversity and tolerance in Israel. Over the past decade, our commitment to religious diversity in Israel has increased 20-fold and exceeds the efforts of all other organizations combined. AN OPEN AND TOLERANT ISRAEL MATTERS This year, the UJA Federation system will invest, through the Jewish Agency, over $20 million of your contributions on social programs that educate people about tolerance, democracy, religious diversity and unity in Israel. TAKING CARE OF THOSE IN NEED MATTERS The LIJA Federation Campaign and the Joint Distribution Committee will spend $23 million to bring vital basic nutrition to hundreds of thoUsands of elderly Jews in the former Soviet Union who would otherwise go to bed hungry. BUILDING CO V1MLINITY MATTERS The UJA Federation Campaign will dispense over $400 million across America to care for our elderly ; support first-rate Jewish Education in our Day Schools ; help Jewish Community Centers deliver a host of recreational, social and cultural programs ; fund Jewish Family and Children's Services and enhance efforts to build Jewish identity and peoplehood. BUILDING THE LAND AND ITS PEOPLE MATTERS The UJA Federation system will send over $240 million to Israel, via the Jewish Agency and the Joint Distribution Committee, in order to: • rescue and absorb 58,000 new immigrants • give 8,000 American teens an Israel Experience • provide educational enrichment to Ethiopians • build day care centers and shelters for women and children at risk • foster people-to-people relationships through Partnership 2000, which links over 100 American Jewish communities with Israel's towns and cities JEWISH VALUES MATTER The UJA Federation system, through the Jewish Agency, will spend $12 million to send thousands of kids to summer and winter camps in the FSU and help them get in touch with their heritage and future. WHAT YOU CARE ABOUT MATTERS The UJA Federation Campaign is involved in every aspect of Jewish life, here at home, in Israel and in 60 countries around the world. As a matter of fact, no gift touches more Jewish lives more meaningfully than your gift to the Annual Campaign. To the 800,000 members of our national community who stand up to be counted each year, thank you.
