She has been an honor roll stu- dent at Hillel Day School and now attends Norup Junior High School. Sean Strasberger Sean Strasberger was called to the Torah as a bar mitzvah on Saturday, Nov. 1, at Congregation Beth Abraham Hillel Moses. Sean is the son of Cheryl and Fred Strasberger and the brother of Seth. He is the grandson of Shirley and Morey Strasberger and Gloria and Sam Lerman. He is the great-grandson of Gertrude Bounker: Sean is an honor student at Dunkel Middle School where he participates in football, track and the orchestra. He was recently chosen to participate in the Midwest Talent Search sponsored by Northwestern University. A fun-filled family afternoon with Jonathan Liefer Jonathan Cary Liefer will celebrate his bar mitzvah on Saturday, Nov. 8, at Adat Shalom Synagogue. Jonathan is the son of Nancy and Dennis Liefer and brother of Scott and Michael. He is the grandson of Celia and Dr. Saul Liefer, Shirley Levine and the late David G. Levine. Jonathan is a student at Dunckel Middle School. He is a movie buff who enjoys cycling, electronics, music and automechanics. They will spend five fulfilling weeks of study, dialogue and travel in Israel. The Bronfman Fellows will be selected on the basis of character, intellectual interests, special talents and leadership qualities. Merit, not financial need, is the program's selection standard. Fellowship activities begin on July 6th, with a return from Israel on August 12th. All meals will be kosher, and Sabbath activities will be in the spirit of the day. 1998 Based in Jerusalem, the Fellows will engage in an intense interaction with a diverse rabbinic faculty and counselors, representing a wide range of Jewish perspectives. They will explore Jewish texts against the background of Israel's land, culture and customs ... take part, at a time of rapid change, in seminars with some of the country's leading political and cultural figures ... debate ideas and search for insights on the different ways to define oneself as a Jew today, all in an atmosphere of mutual respect and open dialogue. The purpose: to return home with a new understanding of the myriad issues facing the Jewish people and the Jewish state, and a new appreciation of the need for dialogue among Jews. * Fellowships cover all expenses including roundtrip transportation between New York and Israel, room and board, travel in Israel and incidentals.
