OTZMA Seeks Recruits The Michigan/Israel Connection of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit is looking for college seniors, graduate students and recent college graduates to participate in Project OTZMA, a leadership development and volunteer service program in Israel. The program includes 10 months of service in Israel followed by a commitment to serve in the local Jewish community. In Israel, participants serve three months on a kibbutz and engage in intensive Hebrew studies; perform 10 weeks of community services in * Federation-sponsored Project Renewal or Partnership 2000 neighborhoods or regions; and spend three weeks on an electives track which may include working on a kibbutz or moshav, studying Jewish text in Jerusalem, interning in a high-tech company or living on an Israeli army base. Participants also are required to . 6alc work two months with young immi- grants and disadvantaged Israeli youth at Youth Aliyah villages or in absorption centers with Ethiopian, Russian and other immigrant fami- lies. Each student is paired with an Israeli family during the course of the program. Application deadline for the 1998- 1999 program year is Friday, March 6, 1998. The OTZMA committee will interview prospective candidates in early March, and a mandatory ori- entation weekend will take place at Camp Ruth, behind the Maple/Drake Jewish Community Center, Friday, April 2, through Sunday, April 5.
