In Argentina

Jerusalem (JPFS) — Geotek
Communications in Israel recently
announced that its subsidiary Geotek
Argentina-won a contract to build a
digital network in Argentina. The size
of the contract was not announced.
Geotek plans to provide network
service initially in Buenos Aires, with
future expansion planned for
Cordoba, Mendoza, and Santa
Fe/Rosario. Geotek provides mobile
business networks, services and digital
wireless communications products
around the world.

Jerusalem (JPFS) — In an effort to
increase joint ventures, Palestinian and
Israeli industrialists announced plans
to set up a committee that would
meet regularly to discuss hurdles faced
by joint business initiatives, said
Yoram Blizovsky, managing director of
the Manufacturers' Association.
The aim is for both sides to try and
resolve the bureaucratic problems that
Israeli and Palestinian companies face
when trying to conduct business
together.

Bidders Apply
For Phone License

Jerusalem (JPFS) — Three consortia
presented bids to the Israel
Communications Ministry to become
the third supplier of Israeli cellular
phone services, alongside Pelephone
and Cellcom.
The winner, which will be selected
within nine months, will have the
right to operate for 10 years with an
optional extension for six years.
The bidders were the GSM Group
(Koor Industries, Mansman, Aureq
Local Information Services, Yediot
Cellular, and Globescom Cellular);
Partner (Hutchinson, Matav, and
Elbitcom); and Tapuz (Arison
Investments, Eurocom Holdings,
AT&T Wireless, Talia, and Poalim
Investments). Ministry Director-
General Daniel Rosenne is chairman
of the tender board.

Livnat expressed satisfaction with the
number of applicants and the makeup
of the consortia. ❑
